Not your ad

Just for Men, daddy's girls ad
Dr Scholl's ad

What are the Stories that advertisements tell us?

The Plots of both of these ads and many others are as follws
Part 1: Child identifies flaw in their parent.
Part 2: Parent expresses desire to change.
Part 3: Product is offered to bring change.
Part 4: Parent wins approval of child.

Consider who ads are formulated for. Who is the target never lose track of that even when the story suggests it is being told to someone else. Consider the following ad. It is made to sell Old Spice to young men. But the man in the ad appears to address women. Who is the ad really targeting?

Old Spice, not your man
